Making the Monolith Man (Part 1)
What I do, why I do it, and where we go from here...
Since I’m new to this platform, I’ll introduce myself right quick:
My name is Hunter Sprague, I’m a Christian first and foremost, 33 years old, been married for 11+ years, have 3 young children (and one on the way), am a native Texan, avid outdoorsman, lifelong artist and drummer, and I help Christian husbands, fathers, and leaders completely reinvent themselves internally and externally through my coaching business called Monolith Movement.
I’ve called this process of transformation many different things in an effort to best describe what is happening. People need a framework and structure. Programs need a catchy name.
First, it was “Fitness for Church Dudes”, then it became “Muscle Discipleship” (Which I still use for our main 1:1 program), then came the “Reform Your Temple” framework. And now I’m refining it again as new needs and ideas appear.
The name “Monolith Movement” came because the initial inspiration was to help build and form these “monuments of men”. Ebenezers of God’s goodness. Statues of discipline, grit, determination, and expectation. Immovable, unshakeable, ordered, aesthetic, strong, and signal-producing. Not for our own glory, but to be a lamp post and a “city shining on a hill” for those around us. When others see us- our wives, kids, friends, community, coworkers, or total strangers… they cannot help but to be curious, inspired, seen, loved, convicted, and filled with confidence.
Regardless of what it’s called, the hope is this: To to build a generation of Christian men who love Jesus deeply, are insanely in-shape, pursue excellence in all areas, harness aesthetics, are full of vision, and have the audacity to take risks and build.
To put it more simply- we build men that are wise, fit, and cool.
Why? Because excellence is evangelism. Because too many Christian men live lives that are completely indistinguishable from the dark, drab, depressing world around them. Because a lack of health and fitness is a lot of men’s greatest liability. Because beauty heals, and we ought to create beauty however and whenever we can. And because it’s just basic wisdom. These pursuits, and the realization of them, are an undeniable tactical advantage in terms of evangelism, leadership, opportunities, business, longevity, prosperity, and impact.
To date, we’ve welcomed over 250 men into our program. These guys have lost anywhere from 10-100+ pounds, built crazy muscle and strength, learned how to eat and live for maximum results, and drastically improved their mindsets. We’ve seen 50 year old men fitting into their 25 year old jeans and completing 10 strict pull-ups, guys who always hated running complete sub 6.5 minute miles, marriages restored, businesses launched, spiritual breakthrough happen, addictions end, deep wounds healed, and anything and everything in between. It’s been a whirlwind. I’ve learned a ton about how men operate and what they need to succeed.
Add to that the almost 1,000 hours of calls I’ve taken with men interested in my program. I’ve heard their pains, frustrations, motivations, and dreams. You start to see some shocking patterns. It’s a ton of data.
To be frank, my sample size is massive and I don’t speak from theory or out of naivety.
Over the coming weeks and months I’ll be going way deeper on these topics. But today, I want to keep this post short.
There are a million things to address in order to build the “Monolith Man”. Lifting splits, cardio regimens, diet plans, hormones, supplementation, identity, Biblical wisdom, long-term vision, mindset, personal brand, people skills, character, lifestyle, habits, addictions…
We’re not after “good enough”, we’re after a life we never thought possible.
In order to get there, we have to fundamentally change how we operate both internally and externally.
And the bitter truth is- what you’ve been doing is probably not working.
Sure it might be something… but it’s not the thing or the things:
Workout apps
Men’s Bible studies
Fad diets
Testosterone Replacement Therapy
Ice baths
The cool new supplement
The free challenge
Signing up at the local gym
Random 5K’s to pressure you into running
Intermittent fasting
Hours of YouTube content
Scrolling the Instagram accounts of jacked influencers
Workshops
Email subscriptions
Podcasts
Retreats
Accountability with friends
To be clear, I love a lot of these things. I use most of them personally, in my program, and for my business.
All of this could have worked for you.
So why haven’t any of these things led to a real, tangible, verifiable result that’s more than a vague feeling of “I’m doing something, I guess”?
I’ll tell you why.
This pursuit has far more to do with internal changes than external ones.
Like we used to say in ministry- “we’re not here for behavior modification, we’re here for heart change.”
And that is the secret. Heart change.
Inner re-alignment. Identity-shifting. Coming back to the fullness of who we are in Christ and letting that actually (not in theory) guiding what we do and how we do it.
Without this layer, I can promise you will full confidence that some external changes will only last a week, a month, maybe a year, and then you’ll be back to square one and watching your short burst of hard work completely unravel. Then the cycle will commence again- a new app, a new PDF, a new diet, a new program, etc. Maybe this one will do it. Sure. Whatever you want to tell yourself.
The external means- the splits and diets and habits and so-forth, will always be secondary. They only hold a fraction of the power that mastering your inner life does.
The external will always merely be a reflection of the internal.
And that’s probably why you aren’t where you want to be.
That’s why you aren’t currently a “Monolith Man” as I would call the ideal.
So in the coming days, I’ll break this down piece by piece. Everything you need to know. The full roadmap.
Until then- worship Christ, kiss your wife, play with your kids, work hard, enjoy the life the Lord has given you, and wage absolute war on anything that gets in the way.
